NATION: Corona's daughter not capable to buy a house

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) chief Kim Jacinto-Henares said on the 6th day of the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona that, the chief justice daughter is not capable to buy his wife a P18-million worth house in La Vista.

Ma. Carla Constantino-corona only ha a tacable income of P8,476 in 2009 but the property in La Vista was under her name.

The bureau chief said that the agency will investigate the property if it was a donation or illegally acquired. They only knew of the anomalies only last week when the prosecution team asked a copy of the chief justice's income tax return.

The Senate subpoenaed Henares and required her to submit original copies of all income tax return of Corona, his wife Cristina, his daughters Carla and Charina, son Francis and son-in-law Constantino Castillo to disclose the report submitted by the chief justice in his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN).

ENTERTAINMENT: The Rock appreciates the Filipinos


Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson appreciates the Filipinos with the humility they are showing to everyone.

The Rock is promoting his new film 'Journey 2: The Mysterious Island' in 3D film.

He said these appreciative words when the cast of the film had their Asian premier in Taipei, Taiwan.

He said that he is fond of working with Filipinos like in the film he worked with Vanessa Hudgen, who is half Filipino, and saw how humble Vanessa's family are.

ENTERTAINMENT : Katy Perry in Manila

Katy Perry invited all concert goers in the Philippines to watch her 'California Gurls Dream Tour' concert this Sunday.

Her concert will be at the Mall of Asia Concert Ground in Pasay City at 8pm January 22.

This is Katy's second time to do concert in the Philippines. The first was back in 2009 when she performed with Filipino rocker Arnel Pineda of the band Journey.

Katy's hid includes 'I kissed a Girl', 'Fireworks' and 'California Gurls.'

ABROAD: Filipino crew of Costa Concordia hailed

The Filipino crew of the ill-fated Costa Concordia that ran aground in Italy last week, was hailed for accommodating and helping the passengers to get off the ship safe.

The 296 crew were commended by their agency the Magsaysay Maritime Corporation for the reports they received from their foreign counterpart.

In the report, a French passenger thanked the cooks and the stewardesses, all Filipinos, in helping them and many of the passengers to get down to the lifeboats for their safety.

The 296 Filipino crew are now in Rome, Italy and awaiting for their flight back to the Philippines.



NATION : Too many irregular declarations in Corona's SALN

On the third day of the Corona impeachment case, the prosecution team found too many irregularities in the Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) of Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Iloilo Representative Neil Tupas Jr., the lead prosecutor, said that Corona did not declare all of his properties in his SALN from 2002 when he was appointed to the high court up to the present.

When the defense team were asked with regards to the non declaration of Corona's properties, the team said that they are not worried with the prosecution's claim.

The properties of Corona that the prosecution team presented in the Senate court that the team said was purchased in from 2003 to 2009 were:

- a P2.7-million unit in One Burgundy Plaza in Quezon City acquired in 2003,
- a unit at The Columns in Makati City acquired in 2004,
- a P9.1-million unit at Spanish Bay Tower in Taguig City acquired in 2005,
- a P6.1-million unit at McKinley Hill in Taguig City acquired in 2008, and
- a P14.5-million unit at Bellagio I Tower in Taguig City acquired in 2009

The HSBC's Expat Explorer Survey made a list of 2011 most friendliest countries in the world and the Philippines landed the 8th in the list.

The survey is based on ability befriend locals, capacity for integrating in the community, learning the local language and ease to fit into the new culture.

Financially, Philippines also increased by 47%. Many Filipinos are now enjoying a much luxurious life and owning properties is one of their main goals.

BUSINESS: NAIA, world's 2nd worst airport


Bad news for our tourism's "It's fun in the Philippines." The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) was voted as second worst airport in the world.

NAIA's Terminal 1 is the 2nd's worst airport according to travel guide publisher Frommer's. NAIA-1 is just second to New York's JFK Airport Terminal 3.

The the list was based on the criteria on cleanliness, services, on-time departures, navigation and the easy access to and from the city.

Sad to say but NAIA-1 is the only Asian airport in the top lists of worsts airport. The list goes:

ENTERTAINMENT : Eugene Domingo nominate in the 6th Asian Film Awards



It was a very good 2011 for tv-movie actress Eugene Domingo and capping off with her Best Actress nomination in the 6th Asian Film Awards for her 'Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank.'

The 6th Asian Film Awards is presented by the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society, will be held on March 19 and Eugene will also be one of the presentors of the said award giving body.

In 'Ang Babae sa Septic Tank', Eugene played a multi-character that pokes fun on the independent films.

The film also garnered nomination in best screenplay for director Chris Martinez. And it is also one of the 63 films submitted for the 84th Academy Awards in the Foreign Language Film Category.



NATION: Start of the trial of Chief Justice Corona

Iloilo Congressman Neil Tupaz Jr. said that Chief Justice Renato Corona's team made their first mistake on the first day of the impeachment trial when they insisted that the Senate court should conduct first a preliminary hearing on the impeachment complaint.

On the second day, it was the defense team to be in charge. When the prosecution team asked the Senate judges to call upon the family of CJ Corona for the unaccountable and ill gotten wealth of the family. But the court declined the prosecution request that the wife and children of Corona will be called upon to testify.

But the senate judges were very dismayed when the prosecution team were not ready for the article 1 needed in the impeachment hearing.

The shih tzu tops as the most loved dog of the Filipinos. Followed by the chihuahua.

The Philippine Canine Club Inc's made a survey and found out the more Filipinos are loving the toy dogs. An estimated 25.000 Filipinos owned a shih tzu in 2011 based on the club's registration statistics.

The club is delighted that more and more Filipinos are becoming dog lovers and they want the Philippines to be a dog friendly environment and expecting that there will be more dog friendly establishments not only in Metro Manila but all over the country.

SPORTS: Pacman already picked his opponent.


Top Rank big boss Bob Arum said in an interview that Filipino champ Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao already had his mind set who will he face in the ring in his next fight.

Arum met with the Saranggani Congressman in his four-day stay in the Philippines and won't say the name of Pacman's next foe.

If in case the Floyd Mayweather fight will not push through, four boxers are in Top Rank's line up to face the Pacman. However, Arum said that the Filipino champ already chose someone and wants to go through it.

A reporter said that he overheard Jinkee Pacquiao, Pacman's wife, that there will be a Pacquiao-Cotto in June. Jinkee said that it was Cotto that the Pacaman wants to fight next.

But Arum quickly said that, the congressman will fight in the last week of May and early June and if it's not a Mayweather-Pacman bout, it will be a Pacman-Pacman choice that will happen. The Top Rank boss is still not losing hopes that there will be the much awaited dream fight to happen this year.


LOCAL: Rep. Singson arrived in the Philippines


Former Congressman Ronald Singson is now home after his 18-month jail term in Hong Kong.

The former Ilocos Sur's first district representative was sentenced by the Wan Chai District court in Hong Kong to a jail term for drug possession in July, 2010. In August, 2010, he was granted bail of P12 million after it was determined that the amount of drugs seized from Singson was only 6.7 grams.

He arrived at Laoag International Airport at 4pm with his father Governor Chavit Singson.

Before going back to the Philippines, Singson was interviewed and asked about his plans, he said that for now all he wants is to spend more time with his family.

The Singson's will be holding a press conference soon in Ilocos for Ronald's official statements regarding his jail stay in Hong Kong.

SPORTS: Tim Tebow a Filipino?


Denver Bronco's quarterback Tim Tebow is a Filipino!

The very charismatic Tebow was born in the Philippines on August 14, 1987 and he's been coming back here every year since he was 15.

In a recent interview with Shannon Sharpe of CBS , Tim was asked why Filipinos are so special to him, he said that not only he was born in the Philippines, but, Filipinos need a lot of help and it's an opportunity for him to make a difference to touch the people not only physically in pain but emotionally and more importantly spiritually and he wants to be a role model for every generation.

Tim Tebow, with some friends, is helping to build a hospital in the Philippines to help Filipinos in all their medical needs and reach out to them to listen and know the words of God.

The 25th overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft, Tim Tebow recently helped the Denver Bronco's win the playoffs in overtime against the Pittsburgh Steelers and now will face Tom Brady's New England Patriots for the NFL semi-finals.

Will Tim's strong bond with the Filipinos be the sign that after finding the love for soccer, will American Football be Filipino's next sport's craze ?

ENTERTAINMENT: IP address located for the Ramgen-Janelle sex video


The killing of Ramgen Revilla is getting messier as the hearing of the case gets nearer.

The latest of it is the leak of a sex video between Ramgen and his girlfriend Janelle Manahan.

As the status of the killing is now a murder case charge against Ramgen's siblings, RJ and Ramona Bautista, evidences are now building up with the discovery of the IP address where the sex video was uploaded. The police found out that the IP address is somewhere in Europe where many believe Ramona is now in hiding.

Ramgen's mother Genelyn Magsaysay admitted in an interview that Ramgen's personal belongings are now in her possession including the victim's laptop where it is believed the sex video came from.

Genelyn earlier denied any leakage of the said video but in an interview with Manahan said, there is no denying that the family of Ramgen, having access with Ramgen's personal belongings, are the main suspects of posting their video in some social networking sites.

The lawyers of Manahan are now asking for banning the video and a law against cyberspace bullying must be implemented to prevent such videos containing malicious scenes be transmitted to many social networking sites.

Ramgen was brutally murdered inside their home in BF Homes Paranaque last October 28.

NATION: 4 million jobs waiting in 2012

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said yesterday that almost four million jobs awaits for Filipino job hunters.

Usec. Danilo Cruz of DOLE said that 1.5 million jobs will be formed in the local construction industries alone. Another 1.5 million for overseas employments.

Big infrastructure projects in 2012 that will provide employment of engineers, heavy equipment operators and skilled workers and projecting at least 2.8 million local hiring needed.

Usec. Cruz also said that countries abroad mostly the Middle East and Asia countries will open at least 1.5 million jobs for Filipinos in health care and construction industries.

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) said in that, despite of the ongoing crisis in many Middle East countries, POEA is still very hopeful that many jobs will be open for Filipinos and retain its traditional market like in Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.

2011 saw a growth in overseas employment despite crisis in the Middle East. But there was a decline in hiring Filipino seafarers as a result of Economic recession in Europe.

DOLE and POEA expects growth in hiring Filipino workers in the neighboring Asian countries which recorded a 60% increase in hiring last year.



SPORTS: It's May 5 or nothing for Pacquiao

The camp of American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr wants the fight with Filipino champ Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao to happen on May 5 and not on the last week of May as what the camp of the Pacman been urging.

Freddie Roach, Pacman's coach and trainer said that they still had to clear the decks, putting off several fight deals with other boxers for a May fight with Mayweather.

He said that a boxing between the two famous boxers of today can be arranged if both parties will agree with all financial deals of the fight. It must be on even terms as Roach wants it to be.

Ask about his reaction as to what Mayweather earlier tweeted to Pacman to "stand up punk', here's what Roach replied, "He's been evading us for two years, he should be looking in the mirror."

Will this new excuse from Mayweather's camp be another reason for a dream fight not to happen?


Corona's Trial starts on January 16


The impeachment trials of Chief Justice Renato Corona is a go on January 16 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile will preside the hearing, asks the senator-judges, who act as the prosecutor, to appear in the senate hall on the said date and time.

Senator Enrile will consider the motion for preliminary hearing filed by the counsel of Corona to establish the validity of the impeachment complaint according to the requirement of the constitution.

It was also noted that one representative for each party is allowed for the opening statements of the clients.

The Lower House hired private prosecutors to represent them in the trial. Atty. Mario Bautista and Joseph Perez are the private prosecutors appointed by the house and will be under control and supervision of the House. Rep. Niel Tupas Jr. of Iloilo's 5th district, is the chairman of the House committee on justice, will serve as the chief public prosecutor.

The chief justice will have a 14-man defense team that will be headed by Retired Associate Justice Serafin Cuevas.

NATION: No tsunami scare from Indonesia quake


The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvocs) said that there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines after a powerful earthquake hit Indonesia yesterday.

There is no reason for evacuation in the areas near the Indonesia after a powerful 7.3 magnitude quake hit off the west coast of Northern Sumatra at 2:37am Philippine time yesterday.

There are no casualties reported as of press time.

Earthquakes of this magnitude sometime generate local tsunamis that can only be destructive off the coast located near the epicenter.

SPORTS: PACQUIAO-MAYWEATHER in May!!


As the ongoing exchange of tirades between the camps of Filipino champ Manny Pacquiao and American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., the newest of this is that, the Pacman set the date for the dream fight and it will be on the last week of May and not May 5 as what Mayweather wants it to happen.

Pacquiao's adviser Michael Koncz said in a text message that the congressman will fight Mayweather at the end of May. "Be your own boss Floyd and fight at the end of May for economic reason of earning the extra income from a bigger stadium...the earliest can be constructed end of May" Koncz said.

It was also known that the Pacman is willing for a Pacquiao-Mayweather in May.

Top Rank's big boss Bob Arum earlier said in a report that a difference of $40 million will be lost if the fight will be help in a small venue. And it's and extra $20 million for each boxer's purse.

SPORTS: Mayweather accepts Pacquiao's challenge


Floyd Mayweather Jr accepted Manny Pacquiao's challenge and want to end all speculations and wants the fight to happen on May 5 in Las Vegas.

It was earlier reported that Floyd's jail sentence was postponed to June for his May bout with still undetermined fighter.

"Manny Pacquiao, I'm calling you out. Let's give the fans the fight that they want." Mayweather said answering Pacquiao's earlier request for a fight against him. He ended up his statement with a street tough remark "Step up Punk."








LOCAL: Corona's lawyers convinced that P-noy already talked with senators

Former Associate Justice Serafin Cuevas, Chief Justice Renato Corona's lead counsel said that President Benigno Aquino III convinced senator-judges to vote against Corona in the impeachement trial.

Cuevas said that senators are also "people and if the president approach them, he will talk to them convince them to make judgement that is fair to the people and government" which in fact will only be fair to him, the president.

Malacanang already dismissed what Cuevas been telling to the media.

Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said "I didn't know the esteemed retired justice is an avid gossip fan."

Meanwhile, Integrated Bar of the Philippines general counsel and former Justice Undersecretary Ramon Esguerra, former Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasay Law School dean Tranquil Salvador, and Harvard educated lawyer Karen Jimeno, will lead the panel of counsel to defend the chief justice in the impeachment trial. Former Ateneo Law School Dean Eduardo delos Angeles, who was earlier reported resigned from the defense team said that he is still part or the team and will defend the chief justice until the trial ends.


ENTERTAINMENT: Carmina, Patrick return to the Kapamilya network

Carmina Villaroel and Patrick Garcia will return to ABS CBN to be a Kapamilya star again.

Villaroel's last assignment with the Kapamilya network was 'Morning Girls' with Pops Fernandez and Zsazsa Padilla.

Carmina will be doing a special television show with the network.

Meanwhile, Patrick Garcia is happy to return to the Kapamilya network. Thrilled to be in what he calls 'home', Garcia is set to star opposite Maja Salvador in the drama series 'Precious Hearts Romance Presents: Lumayo Ka Man Sa Akin.'

SPORTS: Pacquiao eager to fight Mayweather


Filipino boxing champion Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao wants Floyd Mayweather Jr to be his next opponent.

"I've said this before over and over and will keep on saying, I want Floyd Mayweather Jr to be my next opponent." Pacquiao said in an interview with Eddie Alinea of PhilBoxing.com.

Bob Arum, Top Rank chief, Pacman's promoter, will fly to Sarangani to talk and discuss with Pacman his desire to be in the ring with Mayweather this June.

Negotiations for the fight were ongoing between the camps of the two boxers but was put on hold after Mayweather was sentenced to a 90 day-jail term for a domestic violence charged against him in 2010 by a former girlfriend.

But Bob Arum said that he no longer consider Mayweather to be the Pacman's next opponent in his future fights. The Top Rank boss instead list Miguel Cotto, Juan Manuel Marquez, Timothy Bradley Jr. and Lamont Peterson in the shortlist.

Pacman will insists a Pacquiao-Mayweather bout to happen than being in the ring with the four boxers mentioned in Arum's list.

Pacquiao even said that he is so willing for the drug test the camp of Mayweather requesting and even getting a lesser pay just to push through with the fight.

Pacquiao also said that it is his job to fight and abide by the fans desire who they want him to fight but still, the final decision will still be in the hands of Arum.

LOCAL: Terrorist attack: TRUE!


The Quiapo Minor Basilica backs what was the Palace been warning the people and devotees about the terrorist attack during the Feast of the Black Nazarene yesterday, January 9.

Quiapo church rector Monsignor Clemente Ignacio said that the Catholic Church also received letters threatening a terrorist attack during the annual procession of the Black Nazarene in Manila.

The monsignor said that the president canceled his official trip to Davao to meet with the officials of the Catholic Church and organizers and discussed about the attack and made a warning to give extra protection to the throngs of devotees that will flock Quiapo on the said feast.

But despite of the warnings and the threats, the Church still continued what has been an annual ritual of the devotees and hold on to prayers, that it may save many from the attack.

The palace had disrupted all means of communications within the area for national security to prevent the terrorists communicating and push the planned attack.


ENTERTAINMENT: Enteng ng Ina Mo a runaway winner at the 2011 MMFF


The Vic Sotto-Aiai de las Alas adventure comedy movie, Enteng ng Ina Mo is the top grosser in the last Metro Manila Film Festival earning almost P185 million in its festival run and is still showing.

Running in second is the Kris Aquino horror movie Segunda Mano. Earning almost P95 million, is a surprise runner up when in the first weeks of the festival, Panday 2 starring Sen. Bong Revilla was a strong second to Enteng. Panday 2 earned almost P87million in its festival run.

Rounding up list and their earnings: Shake, Rattle and Roll 13 (P22 million), My Househusband: Ikaw Na! (P21 million), Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Movie (P8 million) and Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow (P4 million).

The organizers of the festival was so happy with the result and said that it was one of the more successful festival run in the history of the MMFF. They are looking forward to this year's festival and hoping that the Filipino moviegoers will still patronize the film entries and continue patronizing all Filipino films.

LOCAL: After 22 hours, no terror attach at the Black Nazarene procession


After a grueling 22 hour procession, the longest ever in history, the Black Nazarene returned to the Quiapo Minor Basilica.

Despite of the earlier terrorist attack warning from Malacanang, devotees still flocked to the procession that started from the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta enroute to Quiapo. The Manila Police said that this might be the largest gathering of devotees to this annual feast. They had estimated it to reached the million mark and more were waiting for the icon at the basilica.

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle said that their main concern was the terrorist attack for if that happens, thousands of the devotees will be hurt, but still, they ignored the threat and went on with their annual ritual of devotion to the Black Nazarene.

There was a problem though when the carriage with the icon was slightly had a mishap but, with the throngs of devotees helped return the icon to the basilica.

Quiapo Church rector Monsignor Jose Clemente Ignacio said that the faith and prayers of the devotees helped them to believe that no terrorist threats can stop them to go to the annual procession. He said that it was the first time such threats were made and even the President himself announced the warning to be vigilant with the threat.

An estimated 800,000 more devotees were waiting for the return of the Black Nazarene to the basilica. Before ending the mass officiated by the archbishop, a big commotion happened when hundreds of the devotees inside the basilica hurriedly went in front of the altar to be the first to get hold of the andas, the carriage with the Black Nazarene.

Hundreds were injured due to exhaustion, hunger and lack of water. But still, all injured devotees doesn't mind what pain they experienced for their devotion to the Black Nazarene.

The only thing people complained during the feast was the lack of communication signal. The Palace asked telephone companies to barred texting and calling in the vicinity of Quiapo to prevent any terrorist communications.



ABROAD: A Filipino was spared from death penalty in Saudi Arabia


Vice President Jejomar Binay said that an overseas Filipino worker sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia was spared from the death penalty.

Jonard Langamin might be release in three months as per VP Binay, who is the presidential adviser on OFW concerns, said in a statement from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA)

Langamin stabbed to death another Filipino worker Robertson Mendoza in 2008. One of the main factor why Langamin was spared from the death penalty is the letter of "tanazul" or forgiveness letter from the victim's family.

The two families met at the Vice President's office at the Coconut Palace where Binay talked with the two parties and reconciled them that led to Langamin's new life after the tragic incident.

Under the Saudi's law, a personal or private aspect of the crime is more important than the public where the state punishes the accuse of the crime committed. In the case of Langamin, the family of the victim's forgiveness and kind heart gave him another chance of new life.

BUSINESS: CJ Corona's impeachment trial will not affect Philippine Economy



Malacanang strongly believes that the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona will not affect Philippine's economy.

The Palace's spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said that the impeachment trial will is now focus in the Senate and the president's attention was not diverted by it and tend to the growing problems of the Philippine economy. He said that the chief justice will have a fair trial and the president will not lay his hand on the senate's hearing and decision.

Thus the Palace is hoping that the Supreme Court will not stop the Senate in the hearing proceedings. The trial of the chief justice will start on January 16.


Feast of the Black Nazarene, thousands attended despite terror threats


The annual Feast day of the Nazarene in Quiapo Manila attracted its thousands of devotees all over the Philippines despite the ongoing terror threats and warning from Malacanang.

President Benigno Aquino III warned the devotees about a possible terror attack and called a conference in the palace and gave order to all military and police officials for a very tight security and asked the devotees cooperation for a safe and peaceful procession of the Black Nazarene.

Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo said that six to nine people from the southern Philippines might be involve in the said plot but officials never gave information about what they suspect will terrorize the feast and its motives.

But as the day passed and the procession still ongoing, there are no reports of any terror attack but already, hundreds were injured with the pushing and heat in the procession.

The wooden icon of the Black Nazarene, crowned in thorns and carrying a black cross is believed to be miraculous and had witnessed and survived wars from the Spanish era to World War II.
