Feast of the Black Nazarene, thousands attended despite terror threats

The annual Feast day of the Nazarene in Quiapo Manila attracted its thousands of devotees all over the Philippines despite the ongoing terror threats and warning from Malacanang.

President Benigno Aquino III warned the devotees about a possible terror attack and called a conference in the palace and gave order to all military and police officials for a very tight security and asked the devotees cooperation for a safe and peaceful procession of the Black Nazarene.

Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo said that six to nine people from the southern Philippines might be involve in the said plot but officials never gave information about what they suspect will terrorize the feast and its motives.

But as the day passed and the procession still ongoing, there are no reports of any terror attack but already, hundreds were injured with the pushing and heat in the procession.

The wooden icon of the Black Nazarene, crowned in thorns and carrying a black cross is believed to be miraculous and had witnessed and survived wars from the Spanish era to World War II.
