ABROAD: A Filipino was spared from death penalty in Saudi Arabia

Vice President Jejomar Binay said that an overseas Filipino worker sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia was spared from the death penalty.

Jonard Langamin might be release in three months as per VP Binay, who is the presidential adviser on OFW concerns, said in a statement from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA)

Langamin stabbed to death another Filipino worker Robertson Mendoza in 2008. One of the main factor why Langamin was spared from the death penalty is the letter of "tanazul" or forgiveness letter from the victim's family.

The two families met at the Vice President's office at the Coconut Palace where Binay talked with the two parties and reconciled them that led to Langamin's new life after the tragic incident.

Under the Saudi's law, a personal or private aspect of the crime is more important than the public where the state punishes the accuse of the crime committed. In the case of Langamin, the family of the victim's forgiveness and kind heart gave him another chance of new life.
