NATION: No tsunami scare from Indonesia quake

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvocs) said that there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines after a powerful earthquake hit Indonesia yesterday.

There is no reason for evacuation in the areas near the Indonesia after a powerful 7.3 magnitude quake hit off the west coast of Northern Sumatra at 2:37am Philippine time yesterday.

There are no casualties reported as of press time.

Earthquakes of this magnitude sometime generate local tsunamis that can only be destructive off the coast located near the epicenter.
